HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 366 Commending McLean Orchestra.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2016 Agreed to by the Senate, March 10, 2016

 

WHEREAS, for 45 years, McLean Orchestra has provided residents of and visitors to Fairfax County with opportunities to enjoy professional-level orchestral concerts at easily accessible locations; and

WHEREAS, McLean Orchestra comprises more than 80 talented amateur and professional musicians who delight audiences with outstanding performances, including several chamber groups that provide elegant music for any occasion; and

WHEREAS, an active partner in the McLean arts community, McLean Orchestra collaborates with other organizations and holds free concerts to introduce the joys of classical music to new audiences; and

WHEREAS, McLean Orchestra also conducts educational outreach programs aimed at children and teenagers; its members founded the McLean Youth Orchestra in 1983 to help young people develop their musical talents; and

WHEREAS, McLean Orchestra has succeeded in its mission to foster appreciation and enjoyment of live classical music with the help of hardworking staff members; dedicated volunteers; and many generous donations from local individuals, businesses, and organizations; and

WHEREAS, the 2015 - 2016 concert season, titled “A New Beginning,” commemorates McLean Orchestra’s 45th anniversary with a variety of inspiring performances; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend McLean Orchestra on the occasion of its 45th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to McLean Orchestra as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for its commitment to artistic excellence and contributions to cultural life in McLean.
