2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, since 2005, the Tuskegee Airmen Motorcycle Club of Richmond has been educating the public about the history and legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American fighter pilots who honorably served the nation during World War II; and
WHEREAS, through sheer force of will, perseverance, and valorous actions, the Tuskegee Airmen overcame discrimination and racial stereotypes regarding the effectiveness of African American troops in combat; and
WHEREAS, carrying on the Tuskegee Airmen’s dedication to duty, the Tuskegee Airmen Motorcycle Club of Richmond, which is made up of men and women from many different backgrounds, contributes to the community by sponsoring local events through charitable motorcycle rides and fundraisers; and
WHEREAS, the Tuskegee Airmen Motorcycle Club of Richmond has taken a special interest in the youth of the community, mentoring and encouraging the future leaders of the Commonwealth, and supports events to provide food, clothing, and shelter to local families in need; and
WHEREAS, the Tuskegee Airmen Motorcycle Club of Richmond has supported ChildSavers, Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond, Prader-Willi Syndrome Association, The Carol Adams Foundation, Kimmy’s Angels 4 Tatas, Methodist Children’s Home, Sickle-Cell Association of Richmond - OSCAR, Diamondz Are Forever, and Veterans Charity Ride; and
WHEREAS, the Tuskegee Airmen Motorcycle Club of Richmond also accepts invitations from local organizations to speak about the heroic service and sacrifices of the Tuskegee Airmen; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Tuskegee Airmen Motorcycle Club of Richmond on the occasion of its 10th anniversary in 2015; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Tuskegee Airmen Motorcycle Club of Richmond as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the club’s work to honor the history and legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.
