16105315DWHEREAS, Robley Shelton Jones has dedicated his life to serving the youth of the Commonwealth as a teacher and a staunch advocate for education; and
WHEREAS, Robley Jones is a proud son of Virginia and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Old Dominion University; and
WHEREAS, Robley Jones served with distinction in the critically important role of a public school educator, working as an English teacher in Norfolk and Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, Robley Jones rose through the leadership ranks of the Virginia Education Association and served as the organization’s president from 1991 to 1996; 2016 marks his 17th year as the association’s Director of Government Relations and Research; and
WHEREAS, for many years, Robley Jones has been a wise voice on the Virginia political scene, including as state director for United States Senator Charles Robb and as a fellow of the Sorensen Institute at the University of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Robley Jones has served the community in numerous roles, including as treasurer of Jobs for Virginia Graduates and as chair of the Board of Commissioners for the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 Session of the General Assembly will be Robley Jones’ final session advocating for public education, something he has done tirelessly and with distinction throughout his career; he earned the respect of legislators and staff on both sides of the aisle for his exceptional service and leadership; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Robley Shelton Jones for his work to support young Virginians as an advocate for public education; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robley Shelton Jones as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his contributions to the cause of public education in the Commonwealth.
