Celebrating the life of Derek Jerrell Henderson.

WHEREAS, Derek Jerrell Henderson of Richmond, an employee of Martin’s Food Markets, a loving and respectful father and son, and a man of strong faith, died on January 2, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Derek Henderson, who was educated in the Richmond Public Schools, was raised to show respect for others, be faithful, and to cherish and care for those he loved; he shared a strong bond with his family, who were supportive and positive role models, especially when he became a father; and

WHEREAS, sports were a large part of Derek Henderson’s life; he participated in the South Richmond Little League, and also was proud be known as a “cheer Dad,” never missing the opportunity to assist with cheerleading practices or volunteer at Westover Hills Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Derek Henderson, who overcame many obstacles in his life, was known for his intelligence and strong opinions; he also was regarded as an outstanding debater by his friends and family members; and

WHEREAS, Derek Henderson was a man of deep and abiding faith, and he greatly enjoyed fellowship and worship at Broad Rock Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Derek Henderson will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his children, J’Nya and Skylar; parents, Robert and Alice; and many other family members, friends, and coworkers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Derek Jerrell Henderson of Richmond, an employee of Martin’s Food Markets, a loving son and father, and a man of great faith; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Derek Jerrell Henderson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
