HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 15
Commending the Kettle Run High School boys' soccer team.

WHEREAS, the Kettle Run High School boys’ soccer team of Nokesville claimed the school’s first state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 3A state championship in June 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Kettle Run High School Cougars defeated the Blacksburg High School Bruins 2 - 1 in a tense rematch of the 2014 Group 3A semifinal; and

WHEREAS, the Blacksburg High School Bruins struck first, bouncing a shot past Kettle Run High School goalkeeper Jakob Schoenike to take the lead near the end of the first half; the Kettle Run High School Cougars rallied to tie the game 1 - 1 with a strike from Bhayle Kearns in the second half; and

WHEREAS, the game looked destined for overtime, when senior Reece Cooke slipped a ball past the Blacksburg keeper with only 53 seconds left in the game; two of the Bruins attempted to clear the ball but knocked it into the net for an own goal and a Kettle Run High School victory; and

WHEREAS, the Kettle Run High School Cougars finished the season with an impressive 19 - 1 -1 record, and seven-year head coach Philip Roper reached his milestone 100th victory; and

WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the hard work of all of the athletes, the able leadership of the coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Kettle Run High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Kettle Run High School boys’ soccer team on winning the Virginia High School League Group 3A state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Philip Roper, head coach of the Kettle Run High School boys’ soccer team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s perseverance and skill.
