Celebrating the life of Edith R. Jones.

WHEREAS, Edith R. Jones, a devoted educator and a tireless volunteer who worked to serve and support the Amherst County community, died on September 3, 2015, at the age of 107; and

WHEREAS, born on July 12, 1908, Edith Jones was a longtime resident of Amherst County and a witness to the seminal events of the 20th century; and

WHEREAS, for many years, Edith Jones was a teacher of first-grade through seventh-grade students at the one-room Rocky Seat School in Amherst County; she worked to impart her passion for lifelong learning and helped inspire the youth of the community to achieve their full potential; and

WHEREAS, Edith Jones lived her faith through her actions, and she enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Monroe; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband, Henry, Edith Jones will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members and close friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Edith R. Jones, a passionate educator and a devoted servant to the Central Virginia community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Edith R. Jones as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
