HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 147
Celebrating the life of Carlton Lee Wingfield.

WHEREAS, Carlton Lee Wingfield of Madison Heights, a devoted husband and father, a successful business owner, a strong supporter of the Amherst County community, and a man of great faith, died on September 2, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Carlton Wingfield was born into modest circumstances, yet through a strong drive to succeed and a strong work ethic, he became a self-made man; he founded Wingfield Real Estate and Auction Services, Inc., in Madison Heights and acquired more than 50 years of business experience; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Carlton Wingfield shared his wisdom and insight on many boards and organizations in the area, including the boards of directors of the Bank of Virginia and Whitten Funeral Homes; and

WHEREAS, a man with many interests, Carlton Wingfield was an antique car enthusiast, liked to play tennis, and was a great supporter of Amherst County athletics; he gladly attended his grandchildren’s sports events and school programs and was his family’s strongest advocate; and

WHEREAS, Carlton Wingfield was a person of great faith; he was a longtime member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church in Madison Heights, where he served as a life deacon and trustee; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by a son, Steven, Carlton Wingfield will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by Jeane, his wife of 63 years; children, C.T. and Melanie, and their families; and many family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Carlton Lee Wingfield of Madison Heights, a devoted husband and father, a successful businessman, a strong supporter of the Amherst County community, and a man of great faith; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Carlton Lee Wingfield as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
