WHEREAS, in 2015, Lois King celebrated more than 55 years of devoted service to the youth of Fauquier County as a school bus driver; and

WHEREAS, Lois King began working as a school bus driver for Fauquier County Public Schools in 1960 as a way to better support her growing family; starting her career at the age of 24, she was able to build a strong rapport with students, which she maintains with each new class to this day; and

WHEREAS, caring deeply for her students, Lois King takes pride in her ability to maintain discipline on her bus by treating students with respect, and she works to instill in students a similar sense of respect for themselves and each other; and

WHEREAS, valuing hard work and responsibility, Lois King enjoys the strict routines of her career, rising early each morning to prepare for the day; she ensures that Fauquier High School students arrive safely, then carries Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps students to Liberty High School; and

WHEREAS, Lois King also tends to a herd of Black Angus cattle and spends her mornings and afternoons working on her farm before picking up students after school; she has earned a reputation for loyalty and dependability over the years and rarely misses work; and

WHEREAS, in May 2015, Fauquier County Public Schools’ transportation department honored Lois King with an award recognizing her exceptional career; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic servant to the community, Lois King hopes to break the record for longest-serving school bus driver in the Commonwealth, which is currently 56 years; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lois King for her 55 years of dedicated service to Fauquier County as a school bus driver; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lois King as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her contributions to the community and best wishes for the future.
