HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 127
Commending Glasgow Middle School.

WHEREAS, Glasgow Middle School was named a National Demonstration School by Advancement Via Individual Determination for its work to help underperforming students achieve success in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) has provided more than 30,000 educators in 5,600 schools, including Glasgow Middle School, with research-based curricula and strategies to help better develop students’ critical thinking, literacy, and math skills; and

WHEREAS, Glasgow Middle School received the prestigious AVID National Demonstration School Award for its work to implement AVID strategies school-wide and helped students prepare for higher education, careers, and responsible citizenship; and

WHEREAS, only approximately 150 schools around the country have passed the rigorous screening process to be named an AVID National Demonstration School, and Glasgow Middle School is the only public school in Fairfax County that has earned the honor; and

WHEREAS, using AVID techniques, Glasgow Middle School taught and reinforced behaviors conducive to academic success, provided intensive support and tutorials through strong teacher-student relationships, built positive peer groups for students, and developed an atmosphere where students can succeed through hard work and determination; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Glasgow Middle School, an exceptional public school in Fairfax County, on being named a National Demonstration School by Advancement Via Individual Determination; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Glasgow Middle School as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the school’s accomplishments and dedication to its students.
