HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 531
Celebrating the life of Ruth Williams Campbell Taylor.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, August 17, 2015

 

WHEREAS, Ruth Williams Campbell Taylor, a medical professional who dedicated her life to the service of others in the City of Richmond, died on July 1, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree from Mary Washington College and graduated from what was then the Medical College of Virginia (MCV); and

WHEREAS, Ruth Taylor pursued a fulfilling career in pediatric medicine and served on the faculty of MCV for 27 years; she earned the admiration of her peers and put patients at ease with her compassion and medical knowledge; and

WHEREAS, after her well-earned retirement, Ruth Taylor became president of the MCV Alumni Association and the first woman chair of the MCV Foundation; she was also an active member of the Woman’s Club of Richmond; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Taylor earned many awards and accolades for her lifetime of good work, including the Caravati Service Award, the Hodges-Kay Service Award, and the Dr. Eugene P. Trani Award for MCV Campus Leadership; and

WHEREAS, a woman who lived her faith through her actions, Ruth Taylor was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her first husband, James, Ruth Taylor will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, John; children, John, Timothy, Elizabeth, Dody, Debbie, and Prue, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ruth Williams Campbell Taylor, an admired medical professional and an active member of the Richmond community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ruth Williams Campbell Taylor as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
