Celebrating the life of Sidney Judson Stanley.

WHEREAS, Sidney Judson Stanley of Old Church, a respected veteran who dedicated his life to supporting his fellow service members, died on April 11, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Stanley graduated from the University of Maryland and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force in Korea and Japan for eight years; he was honorably discharged after sustaining a spinal injury while on duty; and

WHEREAS, an inspirational leader, Sidney Stanley became a counselor and advocate for injured soldiers and worked to honor the service and sacrifice of his fellow veterans; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Stanley was an active member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and Paralyzed Veterans of America, holding many leadership positions; he also worked closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Stanley was appointed to the Board of Veterans Services and the Board of Trustees of the Virginia War Memorial, where he helped establish the Virginia War Memorial Educational Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Stanley worked to further enhance the quality of life of his fellow residents as a member of several civic and service organizations, taking a special interest in the youth of the community; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Shirley, Sidney Stanley will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Sidney and Beth, and their families and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sidney Judson Stanley, a proud veteran and a respected member of the Old Church community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sidney Judson Stanley as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
