2015 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Esther Akers Worley, an educator and a devoted volunteer who worked to serve and support the Washington County community, died on March 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Hayter’s Gap in Washington County, Esther Worley was a teacher and secretary at Hayter’s Gap Elementary School, and she helped inspire the youth of the community to achieve their full potential; and
WHEREAS, as one of the first staff members of People, Inc., which was originally known as the Progressive Community Club, Esther Worley helped individuals with special needs integrate into society; and
WHEREAS, a loyal and trustworthy professional, Esther Worley served as the finance officer of People, Inc., for more than 40 years until her well-earned retirement; and
WHEREAS, Esther Worley lived her faith through her actions, and she enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of Main Street Christian Church in Saltville; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband, Estell, and son, Tony, Esther Worley will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her daughter-in-law, Joan; granddaughters, Cyndi and Kristi, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Esther Akers Worley, an educator and a devoted servant to the Southwest Virginia community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Esther Akers Worley as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
