2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, Roger L. Sullivan, who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, died on May 4, 2014, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, Roger L. Sullivan graduated from Spotsylvania High School with honors in 1964; and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan joined the United States Army in 1966 and served proudly with the 5th Special Forces Group and Military Assistance Command, Vietnam–Studies and Observations Group (MACVSOG) in Vietnam, where he was seriously wounded at FOB 3 (Khe Sanh) during the Tet Offensive in February 1968; and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan was discharged from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in 1968; he earned the Silver Star, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman Badge; and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor’s degree in business management; and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan pursued a successful career in real estate and insurance, until changing his focus and interests to become a national service officer for the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH); and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan worked for two decades with the MOPH, providing passionate representation to veterans; he developed an all-consuming devotion to advocating on their behalf; and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for his service with MACVSOG in a ceremony conducted at Fort Bragg on April 4, 2001; and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan was awarded the Congressional Veteran Commendation by United States Representative Eric Cantor on November 24, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan dedicated his life to serving and helping others; he was admired for his compassion, strength, integrity, and accomplishments in the veteran community of Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Roger Sullivan will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife, Brenda; daughter, Suzanne; son, Jonathan; and numerous other family members, friends, veterans in the Commonwealth, and fellow service members; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Roger L. Sullivan; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Roger L. Sullivan as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
