2015 SESSION
15104070DWHEREAS, the Nelson County Future Farmers of America Farm Business Management team placed second in the Farm Business Management career development event at the 87th National Future Farmers of America Convention and Expo in 2014; and
WHEREAS, the Nelson County Future Farmers of America (FFA) Farm Business Management team placed second out of 42 teams; in the individual standings, Deightan McClellan took fourth place, Zach Barnes placed sixth, Phillip Saunders placed seventh, and Noah Fitzgerald placed 21st, with each earning a gold medal; and
WHEREAS, the Nelson County FFA Farm Business Management team demonstrated their ability to use problem-solving skills and apply economic concepts to farm and ranch management issues, such as budgets, marketing, risk management, and planning and analysis; and
WHEREAS, the top 10 individual winners in the competition received a cash scholarship, and the Nelson County FFA Farm Business Management team earned a combined $2,100; the team was coached by Ed McCann, Sr., who was named a Farm Business Fellow after the competition; and
WHEREAS, the Nelson County FFA Farm Business Management team won competitions at local and state levels to advance to the national event, held in Louisville, Kentucky; at the state competition Zachariah Phillips earned first place, Deightan McClellan earned second place, and Zach Barnes earned third place; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Nelson County FFA Farm Business Management team have gained valuable experience and skills that will help them better serve the Commonwealth as farmers, business leaders, and citizens; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Nelson County Future Farmers of America Farm Business Management team on placing second in the Farm Business Management career development event at the 2014 National Future Farmers of America Convention and Expo; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ed McCann, Sr., head coach of the Nelson County Future Farmers of America Farm Business Management team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
