2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, Mary Harvey-Halseth, a faithful, hardworking public servant and community leader, worked to enhance the Lexington community as a member of the Lexington City Council; and
WHEREAS, a native of Arlington, Mary Harvey-Halseth grew up in Washington, D.C., and earned a bachelor’s degree from George Mason University and a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University; and
WHEREAS, Mary Harvey-Halseth has shared the joy of music with others as a piano teacher for more than 40 years; she now has three students and occasionally performs at local venues or volunteers to play at churches; and
WHEREAS, for more than 20 years, Mary Harvey-Halseth has generously volunteered her time, talents, and leadership with numerous civic and service organizations in Lexington; and
WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to the community, Mary Harvey-Halseth ran for and was elected to the Lexington City Council, where she helped residents better understand city ordinances and was a voice for fiscal responsibility; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure on the Lexington City Council, Mary Harvey-Halseth supported fundraising efforts to revitalize Sunrise Rotary Skate Park and introduced an initiative to improve the welfare of pets in underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, Mary Harvey-Halseth and her husband, Richard, have two grown sons, both of whom live in California; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mary Harvey-Halseth for her service to the public as a member of the Lexington City Council; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mary Harvey-Halseth as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her contributions to the Lexington community and best wishes for the future.
