WHEREAS, the Faith Baptist School varsity men’s basketball team won the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools state championship on March 1, 2014; and
WHEREAS, the Faith Baptist School varsity men’s basketball team started the regular season strong and persevered against several tough opponents to advance to the playoffs; and
WHEREAS, the Faith Baptist School varsity men’s basketball team defeated talented teams from Great Hope Baptist School in the quarterfinals and Evangel Christian School in the semifinals; and
WHEREAS, the Faith Baptist School varsity men’s basketball team bested the team from Heritage Christian Academy by a score of 66 - 55 to claim its first state title since 2001; and
WHEREAS, after the state championship game, Brandon Burton was named most valuable player of the tournament, and he and Zachary Williby were named to the all-tournament team; and
WHEREAS, the Faith Baptist School junior varsity men’s basketball team also had an exceptional season, posting a perfect 12 - 0 record and winning the ODACS junior varsity championship 66 - 54; and
WHEREAS, the victories are a testament to the talent and hard work of the athletes, the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Faith Baptist School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Faith Baptist School varsity men’s basketball team on winning the 2014 Old Dominion Association of Church Schools state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Don Cornell, head coach of the Faith Baptist School varsity men’s basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s determination and skill.
