Celebrating the life of Edna H. McEachin.

WHEREAS, Edna H. McEachin of Richmond, a respected former educator, passionate volunteer, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died on November 19, 2014; and

WHEREAS, a native of the Miller’s Tavern community in Essex County, Edna McEachin attended the John Moncure School, where her father served as principal; she earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia State University and a master’s degree from Virginia Union University; and

WHEREAS, Edna McEachin worked to break down barriers and build a strong community; she served as the first African American banker at Central National Bank in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, Edna McEachin followed in her father’s footsteps as an educator, serving as a librarian assistant at Armstrong High School and a special education teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School before her well-earned retirement in 1989; and

WHEREAS, generously donating her time and talents to improve the quality of life of fellow community members, Edna McEachin was a dedicated, lifelong member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and a founding member of the James River Valley Chapter of The Links, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Edna McEachin cared deeply for her family and proudly supported them through all endeavors; predeceased by her husband, Ivan, she will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her son, Donald, and his family, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Edna H. McEachin, an active and beloved member of the Richmond community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Edna H. McEachin as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
