15100654DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 23-9.2:13.1 as follows:
§ 23-9.2:13.1. Officially recognized student organizations; alleged violations of institution's policies for the conduct of students; right to representation at proceedings.
A. Except in the case of officially recognized student organizations at Virginia Military Institute, any student organization officially recognized by a public institution of higher education that is alleged to have violated the institution's policies for the conduct of students has the right to be represented, in its discretion and at its expense, by a licensed attorney or a nonattorney advocate for the duration of any disciplinary proceeding or other institutional proceeding regarding the alleged violation.
B. Nothing in this section shall be construed to create a right for officially recognized student organizations to be represented at public expense at a disciplinary proceeding or another institutional proceeding regarding the alleged violation.
