14102202DWHEREAS, it is a goal of Virginia's transportation program to provide for the movement of people, goods, and services as efficiently, safely, and conveniently as possible; and
WHEREAS, transportation challenges can oftentimes be addressed and operations improved through the employment and adaptation of innovative technological solutions; and
WHEREAS, it is highly desirable that the Department of Transportation explore and evaluate the feasibility of bringing advanced and innovative technologies to bear in addressing the many challenges to all modes of transportation in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, it is equally desirable that any such innovations be explored and employed on the basis of an achievable plan of action crafted to meet specific goals; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Secretary of Transportation and the Department of Transportation be requested to create and implement statewide transportation technology goals and a five-year plan of action. Such goals and plan shall be directed to enhancing the efficiency, safety, and convenience of all modes of transportation throughout the Commonwealth.
The Secretary of Transportation and the Department of Transportation shall submit to the Division of Legislative Automated Systems an executive summary and report of its progress in meeting the request of this resolution on later than the first day of the 2015 Regular Session of the General Assembly. The executive summary and report shall be submitted for publication as a report document as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for the processing of legislative documents and reports and shall be posted on the General Assembly's website.
