2013 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Robert E. Brosnan, the Director of the Arlington County Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development, will retire in 2013 after an exemplary career with the county spanning more than three decades; and
WHEREAS, Robert Brosnan, who joined Arlington County government in 1977, has dedicated his career to improving the quality of life for all Arlington residents; and
WHEREAS, Robert Brosnan has focused much of his work on two transit corridors in Arlington County that have experienced the growth of over 20 million square feet of office and retail space and 20,000 residential units during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, Robert Brosnan has worked on the regional level to improve the coordination of transportation and land use planning to ensure a vibrant region and participated in state level discussions to improve transportation connectivity throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Arlington County, with Robert Brosnan as planning director, received a National Award for Smart Growth Achievement from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, a Sustainable Community Award from the National Association of Counties, and recognition for two of its main corridors as Great Streets by the American Planning Association as a part of its Great Places in America program; and
WHEREAS, Robert Brosnan was honored for his work with the 2012 Planning Leadership Award from the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association; and
WHEREAS, current and future residents of Arlington will reap the benefits of Robert Brosnan’s labor on their behalf; and
WHEREAS, in his well-deserved retirement, Robert Brosnan looks forward to spending time with family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Robert E. Brosnan for his distinguished service to Arlington County on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert E. Brosnan as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his dedicated efforts to make Arlington County a great place in which to live, work, and do business.
