Celebrating the life of David Andrew Gibbs.

WHEREAS, David Andrew Gibbs, an enthusiastic aviator and hardworking businessman who greatly enjoyed sharing his love of flying with others, died on February 23, 2013; and

WHEREAS, David Andrew “Andy” Gibbs grew up in the Hampton Roads area and graduated from Bethel High School in Hampton; and

WHEREAS, Andy Gibbs spent nearly two decades in the real estate industry before turning his passion for flight into a business venture in the early 1990s with the establishment of Hampton Roads Charter Service, of which he was co-owner; and

WHEREAS, Andy Gibbs provided strong leadership to ensure outstanding service to the customers of the aircraft and helicopter charter and sales business; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, Andy Gibbs joined with two other experienced aviators to found Hampton Roads Helicopters, which provides safe flight operations and high quality aircraft maintenance to customers across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Andy Gibbs also devoted considerable time and energy to helping grow the Hampton Roads Executive Airport into a premier regional airport; and

WHEREAS, Andy Gibbs touched the lives of countless individuals as a flight instructor, taking them into the air, teaching them how to safely maneuver aircraft, and giving them the opportunity to view the world from a unique perspective; and

WHEREAS, individuals ranging from his own sons to businessmen to members of the House of Delegates benefited from Andy Gibbs’ expert instruction, commitment to safety, and love of flight; and

WHEREAS, a respected businessman, dedicated aviation advocate, and passionate flight instructor, Andy Gibbs most enjoyed the quality time he spent with his beloved family; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his mother, Bula, Andy Gibbs will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Sandie; children, Drew, Jake, and Bonnie; father, Floyd; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired Virginian, David Andrew Gibbs; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of David Andrew Gibbs as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
