SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:
Placement in secure local facility. Clarifies that a juvenile 14 years of age or older who is eligible for commitment to the Department of Juvenile Justice may be confined in a detention home or other secure local facility for more than 30 days provided that the court orders the juvenile committed to the Department but suspends such commitment.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Placement in secure local facility. Reduces the time period during which a juvenile who has committed an offense that would have been a misdemeanor if committed by an adult may be detained in a detention home or other secure local facility from a period not to exceed six months to a period not to exceed 90 days.
