2013 SESSION
WHEREAS, Antoinette Taylor Smith was born on February 20, 1940, and passed away on October 28, 2012; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Richmond, Antoinette Taylor Smith, affectionately known as “Granny Smith,” was a loving mother, grandmother, and foster mother to many children in the community; and
WHEREAS, Antoinette Taylor Smith was a dedicated member of the community and received many accolades for her selfless service, including being named Team Mom for the Powhatan Swim Team for 21 consecutive years, Team Mom at Franklin Military Academy, and Community Mom for the Whitcomb and Fulton Hill neighborhood musical youth programs through the Richmond Community Action Program (RCAP); she was a volunteer for the Richmond Food Bank and served as a longtime board member of RCAP and Richmond Legal Aid Society; and
WHEREAS, Antoinette Taylor Smith was considered a legend, heroine, and blessing by the families and neighbors in her community, and she earned and enjoyed immense respect throughout the City of Richmond and surrounding counties for her community service; and
WHEREAS, of all her accomplishments, Antoinette Taylor Smith was proudest of her children and foster children and the associate degree that she earned later in life; and
WHEREAS, Antoinette Taylor Smith will be missed and remembered for her love of others, dedication to her family, and service to her community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Antoinette Taylor Smith; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Antoinette Taylor Smith as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
