SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 27 Offered January 11, 2012 Prefiled January 10, 2012 Celebrating the life of Rudolph Bernard Brown, Sr. ---------- Patron-- Miller, Y.B. ----------

WHEREAS, Rudolph Bernard Brown, Sr., of Chesapeake, a devoted family man, a military veteran, a longtime conductor on the Norfolk Southern Railway, and a man of great faith, went home to be with the Lord on June 14, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Brown, a native of Norfolk County who came from a family of 11 children, was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School and continued his education at Norfolk State University; and

WHEREAS, a proud veteran, Rudolph Brown served in the United States Air Force and supported fellow members of the nation’s military through his membership in the American Legion, the country’s largest veterans service organization; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Brown worked for Norfolk Southern railroad for more than 20 years as a conductor, and in that capacity, he traveled far and wide over the railroad’s vast network, serving the travelers who boarded his trains with care and diligence; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Brown also was active in his community and his church; he belonged to the Cathedral of Faith Church of God in Christ and faithfully served the Chesapeake congregation in many capacities: as a deacon, a Soul Reaper, a minister, and member of the choir; and

WHEREAS, Rudolph Brown is dearly remembered by his loving wife of more than 35 years, Gloria; his sons, Waymon, Eric, and Rudolph; and he also is recalled with fondness by many other relatives and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a man of faith and a loving husband and father, Rudolph Bernard Brown, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Rudolph Bernard Brown, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
