12100952DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 3.4 as amended of Chapter 319 of the Acts of Assembly of 1966 is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 3.4. Vacancies in Office of Mayor or Councilmember.
A vacancy in the office of the or in the Council,
from whatever cause arising, shall be filled for
the remainder of the unexpired term by a majority vote of the remaining members
of the Council in accordance with the
general laws of the Commonwealth relating to the filling
of vacancies in such local offices, so far as pertinent.
Should there be a
vacancy in the office of Mayor, the Council shall, by a majority vote of all
its members, appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy until the next
general city election.
