2012 SESSION
12100705DWHEREAS, the Lee-Davis High School softball team finished an outstanding season by defeating Battlefield High School (1 - 0) to take home the school’s first Virginia High School League Group AAA state title in softball; and
WHEREAS, on its way to the state championship, the Lee-Davis High School softball team, led by several returning seniors, finished the regular season with a perfect record and claimed the Central Region championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lee-Davis High School softball team then defeated Grassfield High School (7 - 1) before advancing to the championship game and facing the Northwest Region Champion, Battlefield High School; and
WHEREAS, Lee-Davis High School junior Kelly Heinz, the Gatorade State Player of the Year, kept the Battlefield Bobcats at bay, striking out 16 batters, including 14 of the first 17; and
WHEREAS, after having runners in scoring positions for several innings, the Lee-Davis High School Confederates finally scored when Kelly Heinz hit a bouncer when the bases were loaded, allowing Taylor Melton to make it home for the winning run; and
WHEREAS, throughout the season and championship games, the Lee-Davis High School softball team relied on steady pitching, team work, and a strong defense to complete the season with an 11 - 0 record; and
WHEREAS, the Lee-Davis High School Confederates enjoyed the enthusiastic and loyal support of family members, fellow students, staff, faculty, and administration as they advanced to the championship game; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Lee-Davis High School softball team on its spectacular 2011 season and on winning the Virginia High School League Group AAA state title; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jackie Davis, Head Coach of the Lee-Davis High School softball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the team’s championship performance.
