2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Levi Efrain Nuncio of Harrisonburg gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country when he died in the line of duty on June 22, 2011, while valiantly serving in Kunar Province, Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, a native of Laredo, Texas, Levi Nuncio joined the United States Army in September of 2009 and was stationed in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, as part of the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division; and
WHEREAS, in April of 2011, Specialist Nuncio was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; a combat medic who provided expert care to his fellow soldiers, he dreamed of entering the medical profession as a dentist; and
WHEREAS, held in high regard by soldiers and officers, Specialist Nuncio was proud to serve his country and had been stationed in Afghanistan for only a few months when his unit was attacked by small arms fire; and
WHEREAS, a man of great integrity, Specialist Nuncio received several military awards and decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Nuncio’s death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm’s way; and
WHEREAS, a devoted son and brother, Levi Nuncio will be greatly missed by his parents, Raul and Bertha; siblings, Elisama, Benjamin, Dan, David, and Ismael; numerous other family members and friends; and his fellow soldiers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Specialist Levi Efrain Nuncio; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Specialist Levi Efrain Nuncio as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
