WHEREAS, Juanita W. Dickerson, an admired businesswoman who served as the former Commissioner of the Revenue for the City of Fairfax and was actively involved in community affairs, died on March 27, 2011; and
WHEREAS, a native of West Virginia, Juanita Dickerson received a degree from Fairmont Business College before moving to Herndon, where she met and married her husband, Marvin Dickerson; and
WHEREAS, as a respected certified public accountant, Juanita Dickerson enjoyed a long and successful career that included owning her own business, public service with the City of Fairfax, and involvement with the Fairfax City Federal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, for 50 years, Juanita Dickerson owned her own accounting business, serving her clients with great professionalism and attention to detail; and
WHEREAS, Juanita Dickerson shared her experience and expertise with the City of Fairfax as a tax technician before her election as the Commissioner of the Revenue in 1981; she served with great distinction until her retirement in 1997 after four terms; and
WHEREAS, as Commissioner of the Revenue, Juanita Dickerson was the chief tax assessing officer for the City and provided outstanding leadership and a strong focus on customer service during her tenure; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Fairfax City Federal Credit Union, Juanita Dickerson eventually became president of the organization and dedicated herself to providing her fellow City of Fairfax employees and their families with the best possible services; and
WHEREAS, an admired leader in the community, Juanita Dickerson graciously shared her time and energy with numerous organizations, including the Warren Woods/Joyce Heights Civic Association, Women’s Club of Fairfax, Fairfax Little League, City of Fairfax Senior Advisory Council, and Fairfax Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate and caring woman, Juanita Dickerson leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of 57 years, Marvin; children, Marvin, George, and Revedean and their families, including five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and her numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired public servant, accomplished businesswoman, and dedicated community supporter, Juanita W. Dickerson; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Juanita W. Dickerson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
