Celebrating the life of Taylor Lane Anderson.

WHEREAS, Taylor Lane Anderson of Midlothian, an exemplary educator who was fulfilling her dream of teaching in Japan, died following the devastating earthquake that struck the country on March 11, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Taylor Anderson began studying the Japanese language as a middle school student and continued her love of all things Japanese throughout her high school and college studies; and

WHEREAS, a vibrant and intelligent young woman, Taylor Anderson was a student at St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, where she served as co-editor of the school literary magazine, Atelier, and was a member of the Model United Nations; and

WHEREAS, as a student at Randolph-Macon College, Taylor Anderson continued to pursue her interest in the Japanese language and culture, sharing her interest with her Alpha Gamma Delta sorority sisters and organizing book readings and other events; and

WHEREAS, after graduation, Taylor Anderson had the unique opportunity to combine her love of teaching and the Japanese culture by joining the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and creative teacher, Taylor Anderson had taught English to Japanese elementary and middle school students in Ishinomaki, a city located about 240 miles north of Tokyo, for more than two years; and

WHEREAS, Taylor Anderson greatly enjoyed her time abroad and developed a deep affinity for the Japanese people and cared deeply for her students; she was last seen helping children reunite with their parents following the earthquake; and

WHEREAS, possessed of a strong spirit, curious intellect, and compassionate nature, Taylor Anderson touched the lives of all with whom she came in contact and leaves behind many wonderful memories for her friends and family to cherish; and

WHEREAS, Taylor Anderson will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her parents, Andy and Jeanne; siblings, Julz and Jeff; her fellow teachers; fellow alumni at St. Catherine’s School and Randolph-Macon College; and her numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated educator, Taylor Lane Anderson; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Taylor Lane Anderson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
