Celebrating the life of Evan Michael Soggin.

WHEREAS, Evan Michael Soggin, an exuberant 12-year-old from Oakton who possessed an enthusiastic love of hockey and music and the ability to make those around him laugh, died on July 18, 2011; and

WHEREAS, the son of Gyoen and Steve Soggin, Evan Soggin developed an interest in playing hockey after watching his older brother, Nick, play the game; and

WHEREAS, Evan Soggin joined the Reston Raiders Hockey Club; he played year-round and attended summer camps, becoming a skillful player who delighted in being part of the action on the ice; and

WHEREAS, Evan Soggin expressed his vibrant personality through music and drama, playing a variety of instruments in advanced and area bands and appearing in a local performance of “Alice in Wonderland”; and

WHEREAS, an active and energetic young man, Evan Soggin also greatly enjoyed horseback riding, Tae Kwon Do, hiking, and other outdoor activities; and

WHEREAS, in all his pursuits, Evan Soggin made many friends; he possessed a naturally empathetic spirit and wonderful sense of humor that made others laugh; and

WHEREAS, Evan Soggin lived his life with remarkable energy and drive, bringing great joy to his family who will always cherish his memory; and

WHEREAS, a wonderful son and brother, Evan Soggin will be forever remembered and greatly missed by his parents, Gyoen and Steve; brother, Nick; and many other family members and friends and fellow hockey players; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved young man, Evan Michael Soggin; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Evan Michael Soggin as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
