HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 511
Celebrating the life of Marc S. Weiss.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, April 27, 2011

 

WHEREAS, Marc S. Weiss, an admired public servant who played an instrumental role in the development of Hanover County’s business community as the county’s economic development director, died on April 14, 2011; and

WHEREAS, a native of San Francisco, Marc Weiss graduated from the University of California-Davis and worked in Washington state as a member of Volunteers in Service to America before beginning his exemplary career in local government; and

WHEREAS, known for his commitment to local communities, Marc Weiss served as a planner in Redwood City, California, and Carrboro, North Carolina, and as a community development coordinator in Wilson, North Carolina, while also earning a master’s degree at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; and

WHEREAS, a visionary leader, Marc Weiss, as deputy town manager for Leesburg, worked to create the town’s economic development program to bring new businesses to the area and ensure a supportive environment for existing companies; and

WHEREAS, after working for an engineering and land-planning firm, Marc Weiss opened and ran his own successful firm before becoming deputy director then director of economic development for Hanover County, where he worked diligently to promote the county as a premier place to do business; and

WHEREAS, a Certified Economic Developer, Marc Weiss made innumerable contributions to his profession as a member of the American Planning Association and American Institute of Certified Planners; and

WHEREAS, Marc Weiss devoted numerous hours to serving the local community as president of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, and Bluemont Concert Series among many others; and

WHEREAS, Marc Weiss maintained his devotion to his hometown as an avid fan of the world champion San Francisco Giants and 49ers football; he also became a cycling enthusiast and member of the Richmond Area Bicycling Association; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic leader, Marc Weiss served his family and the communities of which he was a part with great integrity, skill, and commitment throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Marc Weiss will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years, Joanne; beloved children, Jessica and Noah; and numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated public servant, Marc S. Weiss; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Marc S. Weiss as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
