WHEREAS, Kenneth Vincent Geroe, a noted attorney and civic leader from Virginia Beach, died on July 21, 2011; and

WHEREAS, a native of New York City, Kenneth “Ken” Geroe grew up in the Bayview section of Norfolk, graduating from Norfolk Catholic High School and receiving a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University; and

WHEREAS, after receiving a law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at The College of William and Mary, Ken Geroe began his distinguished legal career as an associate in the Portsmouth Commonwealth Attorney’s office; and

WHEREAS, Ken Geroe later entered private practice and eventually founded Geroe and Rosenblatt in 1993, developing a specialty in probate administration and dedicating himself to the best interests of his clients; the firm later merged to become Brydges, Geroe, Rosenblatt, & O’Brien; and

WHEREAS, a respected attorney, Ken Geroe also served as the Commissioner of Accounts for the Virginia Beach Circuit Court; and

WHEREAS, Ken Geroe generously gave of his time and talents to numerous organizations and businesses, including Old Dominion University, Jefferson National Bank, and the State Board for Community Colleges; and

WHEREAS, Ken Geroe served as president of the board of directors for The Hurrah Players, Inc., a nonprofit performing arts academy; he proved to be a tireless advocate for the organization and played an instrumental role in its purchase of a new headquarters building; and

WHEREAS, actively involved in the Democratic party, Ken Geroe served as the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee chair, Democratic Party of Virginia vice-chair, and Democratic Party Second Congressional District chair, in addition to providing sound advice to a variety of leaders on the local, state, and national level; and

WHEREAS, a man of high principles, respected for his calm and affable manner, Ken Geroe served his profession, community, and family with great enthusiasm and diligence; and

WHEREAS, a devoted father who loved spending time with his children, Ken Geroe will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his four children, Daniel, Katherine, Caroline, and Margaret; parents, Marvin “Ken” and Joan Geroe, and sister, Gabrielle “Missy” Geroe Zimmerman; and numerous other family members, friends, colleagues, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected attorney and community advocate, Kenneth Vincent Geroe; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Kenneth Vincent Geroe as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
