2011 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Denton Isaac Watson, a retired farmer and businessman and respected community supporter from Ringgold, died on March 11, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Denton Watson, the son of Wiley Watson and Hattie Walker Watson, grew up in Pittsylvania County along with his 13 siblings; and
WHEREAS, a steadfast supporter of the agricultural industry of Pittsylvania County, Denton Watson owned and operated a dairy farm in the Ringgold area that was known for its efficient operation and quality products; and
WHEREAS, Denton Watson also successfully co-owned and operated Boxwood Dairy, a local distributor of dairy products, for 28 years until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, a pillar of the community, Denton Watson generously gave of his time and expertise to numerous organizations, providing valuable guidance and insight as a member of the board of directors of Virginia Bank & Trust Company and Southern States Cooperative; and
WHEREAS, Denton Watson also served as Registrar and Election Clerk for the Glenwood precinct in Pittsylvania County, where he worked diligently to ensure that local elections were conducted in a fair, honest, and nonpartisan manner; and
WHEREAS, Denton Watson served as a member, treasurer, and president of the Dan River Ruritan Club, participating in and organizing many of the Club’s service endeavors in the local community; and
WHEREAS, an admired leader, Denton Watson also served as a member of the board of directors for the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department, ensuring that the area had the necessary fire services; and
WHEREAS, a man of great integrity, Denton Watson lived his faith through his actions and his membership at Ringgold Baptist Church, participating in worship, study, and fellowship in addition to serving as a deacon and trustee; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife of over 65 years, Carrie, Denton Watson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his daughters, Nevida and Lorell and their families, including five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected farmer, businessman, and community supporter, Denton Isaac Watson; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Denton Isaac Watson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
