SUMMARY AS PASSED:

Department of Criminal Justice Services; human trafficking.  Requires the Department of Criminal Justice Services to, in conjunction with the Office of the Attorney General, advise law-enforcement agencies and attorneys for the Commonwealth regarding the identification, investigation, and prosecution of human trafficking offenses using the common law and existing Virginia criminal statutes.

SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:

Department of Criminal Justice Services; human trafficking.  Requires the Department of Criminal Justice Services to, in conjunction with the Office of the Attorney General, advise law-enforcement agencies and attorneys for the Commonwealth regarding the identification, investigation, and prosecution of human trafficking offenses using the existing Virginia  criminal statutes.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Human trafficking; Statewide Facilitator.  Requires the Attorney General to establish a Statewide Facilitator for Victims of Human Trafficking within the Office of the Attorney General. The Statewide Facilitator will have the responsibility of assisting agencies in implementing programs assisting victims of human trafficking and reporting on the status of such programs to the House Committee for Courts of Justice and the Senate Committee for Courts of Justice and the Virginia State Crime Commission by January 1 of each year.
