SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:
Authority to change speed limits. Allows the City of Virginia Beach to set variable speed limits on highways within its jurisdiction to be effective under conditions such as darkness, traffic conditions, atmospheric conditions, weather emergencies, and like conditions that may affect driving safety.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Authority to change speed limits. Provides that, in addition to differentiated speed limits for daytime and nighttime driving, the Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner or other authority having jurisdiction over highways may set variable speed limits based on traffic conditions, atmospheric conditions, weather, emergencies, and like conditions affecting driving safety.
