Celebrating the life of Gerald Marshall Cubbage.

WHEREAS, Gerald Marshall Cubbage, a respected member of the Page County Board of Supervisors, died on April 6, 2010; and

WHEREAS, a native of Stanley, Gerald Cubbage proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army; after the war, he returned to Page County, where he farmed and established his own excavation company; and

WHEREAS, a hardworking and dedicated public servant, Gerald Cubbage listened to both sides of an issue and worked with other elected officials and government leaders to make the best decisions for Page County; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Cubbage served as a member of the Page County Planning Commission, Page County Industrial Development Authority, Page County Social Services Board, Page County Farmers Association, and Virginia Association of Counties; and

WHEREAS, a member of the board of supervisors since 2000, Gerald Cubbage played a key role in expanding educational and employment opportunities to local residents during his tenure; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the importance of preparing the youth of Page County for the future, Gerald Cubbage strongly supported the construction of two new high schools and the expansion of Lord Fairfax Community College in the county; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Cubbage encouraged the youth of the area in their agricultural endeavors as a volunteer with the Page County 4-H, helping them with their exhibits at the Page County Heritage Festival and Page Valley Agricultural and Industrial Fair; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Cubbage faithfully served the residents of Page County and particularly influenced the future of the county through his strong support of local youth, leaving behind an enduring legacy; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Gerald Cubbage will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife, Geraldine; children, Keith and Kevin, and their families, including one grandchild, Sydney; and his numerous other family members and friends, and the residents of Page County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated public servant, Gerald Marshall Cubbage; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gerald Marshall Cubbage as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
