2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, R. DuVal and Anne D. Dickinson, admired citizens and selfless community volunteers, have devoted countless hours over the past several decades in service to their fellow residents of Spotsylvania County; and
WHEREAS, DuVal and Anne Dickinson, who married in 1946, together run Dickinson Equipment, Inc., and enjoy a reputation as respected business owners who provide high quality lawn and estate equipment and outstanding service to their customers; and
WHEREAS, in addition to their numerous business duties, DuVal and Anne Dickinson have dedicated themselves to enhancing the civic and community life of Spotsylvania County through their involvement in a multitude of organizations; and
WHEREAS, DuVal and Anne Dickinson both recognized the invaluable service provided to small businesses by the local Chamber of Commerce and actively involved themselves in its numerous activities in order to help their fellow business owners; and
WHEREAS, devoted and caring parents, DuVal and Anne Dickinson supported their children and local institutions of education through their committed involvement with various parent-teacher associations over the years; and
WHEREAS, a tireless team, DuVal and Anne Dickinson faithfully served as volunteers with Meals on Wheels from the 1970s to 2008, providing welcome companionship and healthy food to those in need; and
WHEREAS, DuVal Dickinson graciously served as chair of the Spotsylvania Service Authority from 1964–1977, where he worked diligently to help expand water and sewer availability and job opportunities, and on the Tri-County Soil and Water Conservation Commission; and
WHEREAS, an admired leader in the community, DuVal Dickinson served as a board member of Mary Washington Hospital and of Hospice Support Care and as charter president of the Chancellor Ruritan Club, where he encouraged other members to become actively involved in community service; and
WHEREAS, DuVal Dickinson was also appointed to the Governor’s Regional Economic Development Advisory Council and currently serves on the board of the Fredericksburg Agricultural Fair; and
WHEREAS, known and admired for her strong leadership and compassionate heart, Anne Dickinson served on the board of the Mental Health Association in the Fredericksburg-Pratt Chapter and chaired its Personal Counseling Service Committee; and
WHEREAS, Anne Dickinson currently serves as treasurer of the Friends of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library’s Spotsylvania Chapter; and
WHEREAS, both DuVal and Anne Dickinson have also generously contributed their time and talents to their church and various other organizations in the community; and
WHEREAS, tireless community servants, DuVal and Anne Dickinson received the prestigious Spotsylvania County Governor Spotswood 2010 Award for their distinguished contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, DuVal and Anne Dickinson have made a profound and lasting impact on Spotsylvania County with their exceptional commitment to their fellow residents over the years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend R. DuVal and Anne D. Dickinson for their extraordinary devotion to the Spotsylvania County community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to R. DuVal and Anne D. Dickinson as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and respect for the Dickinsons’ exemplary civic and community service.
