HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 84
Commending Justin Grant.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 25, 2011

 

WHEREAS, Justin Grant, a powerful athlete and a senior at Franklin High School, scored his 1,000th basketball career point in the Tri-Rivers District Championship Game in 2011; and

WHEREAS, after scoring 164 points his sophomore year, Justin Grant made headlines in Richmond during his junior year when he shattered a backboard while dunking a ball; as a junior he scored an amazing 506 points, and as a senior he accumulated 338; and

WHEREAS, in a game against the Chesterfield Community High School Eagles on December 16, 2009, Justin Grant scored a career-high 45 points in a single game; and

WHEREAS, Justin Grant scored an average of 21 points per game during his three-year tenure with the Franklin High School Broncos boys’ basketball team; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Danny Dillon and Athletic Director Mona Sumblin praised Justin Grant for his dedication and hard work on the basketball court and in the classroom, describing Justin as an outstanding scholar-athlete; and

WHEREAS, Justin Grant was named to the 2010 All Tri-Rivers District First Team and the 2010 All Region A First Team, the 2010 All State Honorable Mention Team, and the 2011 All Tri-Rivers District First Team and was honored as the 2011 Tri-Rivers District Co-Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, at Franklin High, Justin Grant shone as a star on the basketball court and on the football field, and also competed on the boys’ track and field team; and

WHEREAS, in football, Justin Grant built an excellent reputation for his wide array of skills and won accolades for his abilities as a defensive back, tight end, wide receiver, and kick return; and

WHEREAS, following graduation from Franklin, Justin Grant will attend the University of Richmond, where his prowess on the football field has earned him a full, five-year scholarship; and

WHEREAS, Justin Grant’s impressive high school athletic career is a testament to his commitment, focus, and drive and to the support of his family, coaches, teachers, friends, and fans; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates commend Justin Grant on the culmination of a successful high school athletics career; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Justin Grant as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations on his achievement and best wishes in his future endeavors.
