Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That § 1-206 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 1-206. Certified mail equivalent to registered mail; certain notices sent by certified mail, return receipt requested.

A. If any mail or notice is required to be sent by registered mail, it shall constitute compliance with this requirement if such mail or notice is sent by certified mail.

B. Whenever a state agency, as defined in § 2.2-4347, is required to send any mail or notice by certified mail and such mail or notice is sent certified mail, return receipt requested, then any additional mail or notice that is sent by such state agency pertaining to the same subject matter and purpose may be sent by regular mail.
