HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 8
Celebrating the life of Theodore F. Woody, Jr.

WHEREAS, Theodore F. “Junior” Woody, Jr., of Mangohick, a beloved and respected citizen and local tow-truck driver in King William County for many years, died on October 5, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Junior Woody's everyday tasks as a tow-truck owner and operator could be perilous, with unexpected and hidden dangers, and he died as a result of injuries sustained during a call in Richmond on Friday, October 2, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Junior Woody grew up and went to school in King William County, the son of a grocer and a Sunday school teacher, and he began his tow-truck business in Mangohick on Route 30 in 1956; and

WHEREAS, Junior Woody was known to many residents as more than the local tow-truck driver; he was a Good Samaritan and life saver, lending a helping hand to countless people and rescuing friends and strangers out of some of life's most difficult situations; and

WHEREAS, a highly respected businessman with vast experience, Junior Woody was a good friend and mentor to his fellow tow-truck operators across Central Virginia, as well as a seasoned professional and an asset to local first responders and law-enforcement officers; and

WHEREAS, Junior Woody loved his occupation, especially getting to know people from all walks of life and being able to help them and make a difference in their lives, if just for an hour or so, and his friendly countenance and professional manner were always comforting; and

WHEREAS, Junior Woody responded to some of the worst tragedies on the highways of Central Virginia, and when a tow call came in, he would get up and go no matter what time of day or whatever the weather; and

WHEREAS, Junior Woody will be fondly remembered for his tremendous heart and strength of character and will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, Mildred; his two daughters, two sons, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; his numerous other loving family members and friends; and the citizens of King William County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the tragic loss of a fine Virginian, Theodore F. Woody, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Theodore F. Woody, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
