Celebrating the life of Sergeant Forrest Dane Cauthorn.

WHEREAS, United States Army Sergeant Forrest Dane Cauthorn, age 22, died in the line of duty on April 5, 2007, while valiantly serving his country in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Cauthorn died in Hawijah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit encountered enemy forces using small arms and grenades; and

WHEREAS, Dane Cauthorn attended Manchester High School in Midlothian and was a member of the school’s ROTC program all four years; upon graduation in 2003, he immediately joined the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division based at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, Sergeant Cauthorn served a tour of duty in Afghanistan before his deployment to Iraq; and

WHEREAS, known for his positive outlook and his ability to get along with many different kinds of people, Sergeant Cauthorn felt strongly that it was his duty to serve; and

WHEREAS, a young man who lived life to the fullest, Sergeant Cauthorn will be greatly missed by his best friend and father, Forrest W. Cauthorn, and many other dear friends and fellow soldiers; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Cauthorn’s death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Sergeant Forrest Dane Cauthorn; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant Forrest Dane Cauthorn as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
