Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  § 1. The Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner shall establish within the Department of Transportation an Interstate Route 81 Safety Taskforce. The Commissioner shall appoint to the Taskforce such local government officials, persons from the private sector having expertise in highway construction and safety, representatives of commercial trucking businesses, and others having experience or expertise of value to the Taskforce. The Commissioner shall serve as chairman. The Taskforce shall meet at the call of the Commissioner, and a majority of its members shall constitute a quorum. The Taskforce shall, from time to time, make such recommendations and submit such reports on issues related to safety on Interstate Route 81 as they deem necessary or desirable to the Commonwealth Transportation Board, the Governor, or the General Assembly. Members of the Taskforce shall serve without compensation but, from such funds as may be appropriated for such purpose by the General Assembly, may be reimbursed their actual and necessary expenses incurred in carrying out their official duties.
