WHEREAS, 40 years ago, a group of concerned parents who wanted an education for their children with mental retardation founded the Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the Arc, a nonprofit organization, is affiliated with the Arc of the United States and the Arc of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc., is committed to providing opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities to achieve their potential for growth and independence; and
WHEREAS, incorporated in 1964, the Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc., now serves more than 1,300 citizens with a wide array of services; and
WHEREAS, with the assistance of generous community support, the Arc has been a forerunner in offering the citizens of Greater Prince Williams residential services, day care, vocational services, recreational activities, and family support; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of its longstanding commitment to the community, the Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc., was the recipient of the 2002 Shelley Krasnow Community Service Award from the Prince William County–Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc., on the occasion of its 40th anniversary of service to the Prince William County Community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Karen Smith, executive director, as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for the manifold contributions of the Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc.
