047922328WHEREAS, the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond is the only institution in the Commonwealth to maintain a comprehensive program of interpretive museum exhibitions spanning the entire history of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Historical Society, founded in 1831, presents that story through rotating exhibitions and especially through its flagship display, "The Story of Virginia," which recounts more than 16,000 years of prehistory and history; and
WHEREAS, on behalf of all Virginians, the Virginia Historical Society acts as the steward of the Commonwealth's past by collecting and preserving the artifactual and documentary evidence of all of Virginia history; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Historical Society vigorously promotes its museum to all Virginians, with a special commitment to the Commonwealth's schoolteachers and their students, who represent the future of Virginia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate the Virginia Historical Society as the Official State History Museum in Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the Virginia Historical Society so that members of the society may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia in this matter; and, be it
RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates post this designation on the General Assembly's website.
