034597418WHEREAS, the Town of Clifton Forge has a deep, rich, and lasting history associated with the railroad industry; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Clifton Forge is the home of the C&O Historical Society and numerous trains and artifacts of historical significance to the railroad industry; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to evaluate a partnership that could be developed between the Town of Clifton Forge and the Virginia Museum of Transportation in the City of Roanoke; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Virginia Museum of Transportation and the Town of Clifton Forge be requested to study placement of a satellite transportation museum in the Town of Clifton Forge.
In conducting its study, the Museum and the Town shall evaluate the placement of a satellite transportation museum within the Town to advance the travel and tourism interests of the community and to capitalize upon the natural relationship the community has with the railroad industry. The study shall also consider the development of a new public-private partnership for rehabilitation of selected properties within the Town's boundaries in association with establishment of a satellite museum.
All agencies of the Commonwealth shall provide assistance to the Museum and the Town for this study, upon request.
The Museum and the Town shall complete their meetings for the first year by November 30, 2003, and for the second year by November 30, 2004, and the Museum and the Town shall submit to the Governor and the General Assembly an executive summary and report of its findings and recommendations for publication as a document for each year. The executive summaries and reports shall be submitted as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for the processing of legislative documents and reports no later than the first day of the next Regular Session of the General Assembly and shall be posted on the General Assembly's website.
