Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 32.1-134.01 as follows:

§ 32.1-134.01. Perinatal information in hospitals providing maternity care.

Every [ licensed nurse midwife or ] hospital providing maternity care shall, prior to releasing each maternity patient, make available to such patient and relevant family members information about [ the incidence of postpartum blues and ] perinatal depression and a list of available treatment options available in the Commonwealth. This information shall be discussed with the maternity patient and documented in the patient's medical record.
