Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 32.1-134.01 as follows:

§ 32.1-134.01. Perinatal information in hospitals providing maternity care.

Every hospital providing maternity care shall, prior to releasing each maternity patient, make available to such patient and relevant family members information about perinatal depression and a list of available treatment options available in the Commonwealth. This information shall be discussed with the maternity patient and documented in the patient's medical record.
