SUMMARY AS PASSED:

Sheriffs' processing fee. Provides that any county or city may by ordinance authorize a sheriff to impose a processing fee not to exceed $25 on any individual admitted to the county or city jail following conviction. The fee shall be ordered as a part of court costs collected by the clerk and shall be used by the local sheriff's office to defray the costs of processing arrested persons into local jails.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Sheriffs' processing fee. Provides that any county or city may by ordinance authorize a sheriff to impose a processing fee on any individual admitted to the county or city jail. The fee shall be for reimbursement of reasonable expenses associated with the processing and booking of an arrested individual. Such fee shall not exceed $100 and shall be reimbursed to an individual upon presentation of proof that the charge in question was dismissed.
