SUMMARY AS PASSED:
Animal shelters; penalties. Delays the effective date of the penalty provisions for animal pounds and shelters that are violating regulations adopted by the Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services from January 1, 2002, to January 1, 2003. This bill contains a retroactive clause and an emergency provision, and is identical to HB 941.

Animal shelters; penalties. Delays the effective date of the penalty provisions for animal pounds and shelters that are violating regulations adopted by the Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services from January 1, 2002, to January 1, 2003. This bill contains a retroactive clause and an emergency provision, and is identical to HB 941.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Animal shelters; penalties. Exempts animal shelters located in the City of Virginia Beach from inspection by the State Veterinarian, certain recording requirements, operating in accordance with regulations issued by the Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and civil penalties. Currently, all animal shelters may be assessed a civil penalty of up to $1,000 for a violation of the regulations or this section.
