2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched an inexcusable attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and
WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Richard Gabriel of Great Falls, a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon on September 11; and
WHEREAS, Richard Gabriel was the founder of Stratin Consulting Company, a management consulting firm, and was on his way to Australia on business; and
WHEREAS, a native of New York, Richard Gabriel was a graduate of Manhattan College and earned his master's degree from Columbia University; and
WHEREAS, Richard Gabriel was awarded a Purple Heart after losing his leg in battle and spending several days alone in the jungle during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated family man, Richard Gabriel was married and the father of a daughter and four sons; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Richard Gabriel, an innocent victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Richard Gabriel as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
